These Homemade Sandwich Buns are so easy and quick. They take less than 1 hour from start to finish! This recipe makes 12 buns. Perfect for hamburgers, deli-style, or my DIY McRib Sandwiches.
I few things to know about my cooking style. I like to buy things in bulk. Like Fleischmann’s Instant Yeast – 2/16 oz. Bags (Amazon Affiliate Link). I also use a KitchenAid Mixer for all of my kneading.

How to make Homemade Sandwich Buns
Mix together and dissolve 2 tablespoons instant yeast into (1 cup + 2 tablespoons) warm water. Add 1/3 cup vegetable oil and 1/4 cup sugar. Allow this mixture to sit for about 5 minutes. This lets the yeast activate properly.
Add this mixture to your KitchenAid mixer. Add 1 egg, 1 teaspoon salt, and 3-3.5 cups all purpose flour. Knead the ingredients for about 3-5 minutes. You’ll know if you need a little more flour if the dough is still sticking to the bottom of the bowl.
Once the dough is kneaded, divide it into 12 pieces. As you can see in my photo, I did 6 round and 6 oblong pieces. The round buns are more common. However, I was making my DIY McRib Sandwiches and needed 6 oblong shaped buns.
Grease or use parchment paper on your baking sheet to prevent your buns from sticking to the pan. Place dough 3 inches apart. Cover your 12 pieces of dough with a kitchen towel and let rise for about 10 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees. After the dough has risen for 10 minutes, uncover and bake for approximately 8-12 minutes.
