How to Trim Asparagus
There are two ways I know of that you can trim your asparagus. First way, is by bending the ends with your fingers until the stalk naturally snaps. Second way, is by cutting off the bottom inch of the stalk and peeling away some of the end with a vegetable peeler.
Why we Trim Asparagus
We trim asparagus ends because the end of the stalk is usually woody and stringy. Although it is edible, it is not very enjoyable to eat the tough ends.
How to Use Asparagus Ends
I always cringe at the thought of throwing away a bowl full of asparagus ends! Asparagus can be pricey sometimes and to waste 1/4 of it is unfortunate.
Here are some ways you can use your asparagus ends:
- Compost
- Make Vegetable Stock

If you are not ready to use your asparagus ends, you can freeze them in a freezer bag!
